What Crypto Can You Deposit on Polymarket?
Polymarket operates with USDC as its primary settlement asset on the Polygon blockchain. Direct deposits of ETH, BTC, or alternative cryptocurrencies are not supported. That said, UK-based traders holding other digital assets can readily convert to USDC through either a decentralised exchange or a traditional exchange platform before funding their account.
How to Convert ETH to USDC for Polymarket
- Via a CEX (most straightforward): Trade your ETH for USDC on platforms like Coinbase or Kraken, then move your USDC to the Polygon network
- Via Uniswap on Polygon: Port your ETH across to Polygon using the official bridge, then exchange it for USDC through Uniswap
- Via 1inch: Compares swap options across numerous decentralised protocols operating on Polygon to secure optimal rates
USDC Networks: Polygon vs Ethereum
Polymarket requires Polygon-native USDC (not a wrapped or bridged variant). Ensure you transfer USDC specifically on the Polygon chain, not the Ethereum mainnet. Transferring mainnet-based USDC to a Polygon address will cause permanent loss of your funds.
- ✅ Polygon USDC (MATIC network) → use this
- ⚠️ Ethereum USDC (ERC-20) → requires bridging before use on Polymarket
Can You Deposit BTC on Polymarket?
This is not an option at present. You must first exchange your BTC for USDC through a UK-regulated exchange, then move the USDC to Polygon. Typically, the entire operation completes within half an hour after your exchange credentials are validated.
Minimum Crypto Deposit
Polymarket does not impose a formal minimum deposit threshold. In practical terms, approximately $5 worth of USDC represents a reasonable floor, allowing you to cover transaction fees while retaining adequate funds for active participation.
